The Township of Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional is situated
30 kilometers east of Sault Ste. Marie and has many small
communities within its boundaries that have plenty to offer its
residents and visitors.
|

|
The Township is home to the. Loon Dollar Monument. The monument
is located on Highway 17B in the Village of Echo Bay. The structure was
constructed and dedicated in 1992. Mr. Robert R. Carmichael,
the artist responsible for the creation of the Loon Dollar design, is a
resident of the Township. Two wheelchair accessible picnic tables
are available for the enjoyment of visitors to the site. |
The Echo Bay Elks Hay Days is held each summer in conjunction with the
Canada Day weekend. The local organization offers: cribbage, mud bog
competition, a Canada Day celebration and beautiful fireworks.
Don't forget to attend our FAMILY DAY in August
at our Sportsplex Community Centre. We have summer activities for
the kids (swim lessons, water camp, adventure camp, etc.) and a mixed
softball league for local residents. Throughout the spring,
summer, fall and winter, we have many programs running in our halls and
Library/Museum. You will find skate programs, exercise and yoga
classes, craft classes and many more events to fill your time and give
you a chance to chat with friends.
|
On a sunny fall day the area can be viewed on a leisurely drive. The
Circle Route, which includes Highway 638 from Echo Bay to Bruce Mines
and around Highway 17 east, is known for its beautiful fall colours and
picturesque scenery. |

To celebrate the Christmas season the annual Christmas "Parade of
Lights" is held on second Saturday in December at
7:00 pm. All
floats in the parade are beautifully lit and decorated with Christmas
lights. The evening also includes a tree lighting ceremony, a visit
from Santa and caroling. We
kick off the new year with a
Winter Carnival to brighten cold, winter spirits in February.
This event has a family skate, nail driving, log sawing, and
many other fun country activities to test your skill and bring a smile
to warm you up. A Lasagna supper also accompanies this evening of
fun.

Throughout the winter months-groomed snowmobile trails, ice-skating and
ski trails can be enjoyed.
The
Village of Echo Bay can supply a visitor to the area with a full range
of services including restaurants, fuel, groceries and supplies.
